Seeing with the Eyes of Love
When our eldest granddaughter became pregnant, I was in awe of the ways she embraced the life-changing experience, for the love and pride she displayed with the changes to her body, even being involved in a photoshoot as her stomach grew big and round from the baby girl in her womb.
Even before our great granddaughter was born, although I’d never met her or seen her, I was already in love with her.
She’d done nothing to earn my love – she didn’t have to. I Loved her already. I would do anything for her, even though I hadn’t yet held her in my arms.
Why did I love her so much?
Because she carried some of me and some of my wife. A small part of us, for sure, yet a part of us, nonetheless.
On the day she was born, I held her tenderly and lovingly in my arms and gazed deeply into those beautiful eyes. Just as before, when I held other newborn loved ones close and looked deeply into their eyes, I knew I was looking into the eyes of the Triune God, the eyes of Love.
I loved her then, I love her still, as I love all my loved ones.
My loved ones taught me about unconditional love, a love that knows no bounds, a love with no strings attached.
Even as I write these words, I feel a warmth and joy filling my inner being, bringing a glow to my face, my eyes, my heart. It is a love without end.
I am a husband, a father, grandfather, great grandfather and my heart is so filled with love, it radiates outwards touching all with whom I come in contact.
Just as I am filled to overflowing, there is a Father who loves each of us with an everlasting love. It has nothing to do with us. It has everything to do with who we are.
We are God’s.
Just as my loved ones carry a part of me within them, so too, we each carry a part of the Divine, a part of God the Creator within us. There is something of God in us. We have a divine fire within us. We reach for the stars. We dream of the infinite.
God is the designer and giver of the breath of life. Isaiah 42:5 reminds that God gives breath to the people on this earth. It says that God, “. . . gives breath to its people.”
We are children of God, made in the image of God, with God’s breath in our lungs and God’s love in our hearts.
God is within us, and we are in God. We are one with God. We are one with the Universe.
In the first book of the Bible, Genesis, we witness God’s display of unwavering love in the act of creation, where God not only intricately designed a world that would provide for and sustain his beloved creations, but God created man and woman in God’s own image, crowning them as the pinnacle of his creation, emphasising God’s desire for an intimate relationship with humanity. God created the world for us.
God’s love is unconditional and endless, a love that transcends human understanding. God’s love is divine love, not based on our actions or worthiness. It is freely given to all who seek it. It’s a love that forgives, redeems, and restores, offering hope and comfort in times of need. It is a transforming love that leads us to repentance and draws us closer to God.
We need only look to the Cross to see the ultimate expression of God’s love for humanity. “For God so loved the world that he gave* his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life” [John 3:16].
God absolutely loves us. It’s hard to get our minds around, yet it is true. This is where the faith journey starts: understanding that God loves us. If we do not have an assurance of God’s love, our faith journey will not last long. Fortunately, reading the Bible can help to strengthen our faith in God’s love. There is no force more powerful than the love our heavenly Father has for us, God’s children. God’s love can move mountains, stop the roaring seas, heal broken bones and wounded hearts, transform lives, and set free those held captive by sin and shame. So great is God’s love for us that he sent his only Son to die that we might live through him.
There is no love greater or stronger. God loves us already and always.
The greatest love story ever is a never-ending story! We are LOVED.
Have a golden day and treasure life!
